How does shapewear work?

I’ve never had any experience with shapewear before and I was wondering if they only helped improve your figure when you’re wearing it or if it slowly improves your figure overall over time. In the end, will it change your body to the desired shape? Thanks!

it works by sucking in the excess areas should you have any, and shaping the buttocks and thigh, but no. it will only work whilst you use the garment, it will not remould your body in future
