Who Do We Believe In – What Do We Believe
We are all believers, whether or not we associate our ability to believe with faith. We have the choice to believe in whatever we choose, by whatever means. One may cultivate their belief system through the information given to them day in and day out, taught through holy doctrine. Others live their belief, and it is supported only by their nature.
The focus of our beliefs are many, subject to the raised eyebrow and far too often the raised hand of others. Throughout history the beliefs of countless cultures has been damaged or wiped out altogether by those who insist that their beliefs are the truth, the only way.
In reading this I can easily see and feel the argumentative nature. My choice is to stand in non-resistance to this reactive, defensive direction, and instead turn the idea of what we believe in and who we believe in toward the ability, not the use of this ability.
Let’s look at history. We have had those who honor the sun god, and their perception cannot be denied, for the sun is vital to our survival. Their faith ran so deep that they took it upon themselves to give everything they had in order to maintain their place within the light. How different is the sun worship, a light based belief system, from our modern beliefs? We speak of our “God” as the light, and resist the temptations of the darkness.
There are others who give honor to the spirits of the world, carrying the belief that all living things have a spirit. Trees, plants, animals, humans. Many have displayed their honor through the use of drums, sending resonant tones into our auditory world, and deep within the soul. The beating of the drum emulates the beating of the heart, the center of our existence and gateway to the flow of life within our bodies. Today we have physicians taking vow to never do harm, pro-life groups, and advocates for human rights and preservation of the planet. How different is this than those who walked softly?
One point I make in this article is that there has been and will always be many beliefs on this planet. Our capacity for worship and honor runs deep, and just because we “believe” in One does not mean we exclude all others. All things are sacred, and when honored as such through our thoughts and actions we will find that miracles abound, for everything becomes a miracle in our eyes.
