Bringing Miracles into your Every Day

The following is an excerpt from “God’s Smile” by Danish writer Julius Magnussen, published in 1920:

“We will do everything to enable you to believe in the miraculous, in order that you may be able to believe, to know the miraculous. But you can never come to know anything, for you can never know that which you do not understand.

It is for this reason that miracles never occur in the world – and cannot occur, in the human sense. The sun will not rise in the four quarters of the earth. The moon will not put on a hat, for this would be contrary to the laws of the world and the purpose of life.

In reality a thousand miracles occur every day, but you do not understand them. And now you think that it is a miracle that you write with my hand. It surely is a miracle, but can you wholly believe in it deep down in your soul? Even if you can believe in it and know that it is true, it is incomprehensible to you.

Therefore you must doubt. You cannot prove it and people will be able to refute you. Nothing happens in the world, in human life, which, in some way or other, cannot be refuted and made doubtful by man’s divine acumen. Thus it is and it cannot be otherwise.

He who is permitted to witness a miracle is also permitted to doubt concerning it. He who sees the great truth and God’s smile and the wonders of the universe, is also permitted to doubt, or we deprive him of the ability to prove it. For men shall be men and the life of man shall be human, and no human being is a god, and nothing human becomes divine, for in that case he would cease to be human.”

In this passage we see one of the greatest gifts given to us as humans. The ability to doubt is a tool for spiritual growth and spiritual evolution.

While it does support my belief that miracles happen “a thousand times each day” and confirms the trappings of our own growth system, there is more to the story.

We are guided by our higher power, and whether we see it as a spiritual part of our own existence or a Divine Presence it all comes from the same source. Many speak of miracles, sharing their stories around the world. These stories, today, are not found only in our “place of worship” but in everyday life.

Yes we have our doubt, used often in our attempt to make sense of it all, but we also have faith and trust.  The revolution to bring miracles into our everyday life is underway, and we would never have crossed that line if we weren’t ready for it.
